Mike Anthony is the charismatic host of The Heart and Soul of Rock & Roll, a weekly radio show that celebrates the golden era of Oldies music from the 1950s through the 1970s. Based in Long Beach, California, Mike brings not only a deep love for the music but also an infectious passion for the culture, stories, and soul behind it.
From a young age, Mike was captivated by the energy of rock & roll. Growing up in Southern California, he was glued to the legendary KRLA 1110 AM in Pasadena, soaking in the voices of radio icons like Wolfman Jack, Art Laboe, Dick Hugg “Huggy Boy”, and “The Burner” Humble Harve Miller. These voices didn’t just entertain him they shaped him. Inspired by their rhythm, spirit, and storytelling, Mike carried their influence into his own journey behind the mic.
In the early 1990s, Mike became a disc jockey at a well-known Oldies-themed nightclub in Southern California. There, he honed his ability to read a room, blend tracks with heart, and bring generations together through timeless music. That same energy flows through every episode of his show.
Today, as the creator and host of The Heart and Soul of Rock & Roll, Mike shares his love of the era’s greatest hits while digging deep into the stories behind the songs. What he doesn’t know, he passionately researches because for Mike, the music is more than nostalgia; it’s history, emotion, and connection.
Broadcasting every Saturday from 10 AM to 12 PM (Pacific Time) on KLBP 99.1 FM Long Beach Public Radio, and streamed worldwide via the KLBP and Simple Radio apps, the show welcomes listeners of all ages.
